Legacy of Daedalus
1 Overview
The Legacy of Daedalus is a Unity game conceived and developed for the Contemporary Games module during my time at university. The goal of this module was to develop a game that utilised modern and/or unique gameplay and game design elements. Though it was planned to be presented to the public at an open-day event, COVID-19 prevented this from happening.
The game is based in a procedurally generated labyrinth/maze under modern day crete (based on the Greek myth of the Minotaur).
2 Gameplay
The Legacy of Daedalus is a two-player game in which player 1 navigates the maze in first person and player 2 helps guide player 1 to the exit using a top-down map of the maze. Player 2 also has a solution sheet for various puzzles positioned at certain points throughout the maze that player 1 is required to solve in order to reach the exit.
Both players view the game from their own monitors, and neither is allowed to look at the other's screen. Player 1 is not allowed to see the puzzle solution sheet either. Both parties are however allowed to verbally communicate.

The game also features a Minotaur, a half-man, half-bull monster who patrols the maze. The Minotaur is marked on Player 2's map as a red cursor, thus can guide player 1 to avoid it. If however player 1 encounters the Minotaur, it will chase them until it loses sight of them.

Player 1 is equipped with a camera they may optionally use to stun the Minotaur for a few moments, giving player 1 a short window of escape where they can run past the Minotaur without taking damage (particularly useful if they get cornered).
3 Assets and Materials
A few different tools and techniques were used to create various assets in the game including texture baking.
Tools used:
- Autodesk Maya
- Substance Designer
- XNormal
- Photoshop

The images below show an issue in which there were gaps between each instantiated cell. This was resolved by bridging them using additional geometry (marked in red).

4 Soundtrack
The game also includes my own music that I created in Cubase.
